ÂIf you want your car to run correctly, it needs to be maintained regularly. Without regular maintenance, you risk having your car break down, and you can reduce the vehicle’s lifespan. When it comes to routine maintenance, something that you should never forget is the oil change. If you neglect regular oil changes, your engine will be at risk.
Over time, your engine oil will collect carbons, dirt, varnish, and other debris. This debris, heat, and time cause the engine oil to degrade. This can make it difficult for the oil to keep the engine properly lubricated and running smoothly.
When you have your oil changed, the mechanic will remove all of the engine’s oil, and they will allow it to spill out into a pan for disposal. Next, they will remove the oil filter. The oil filter is designed to keep dirt and debris out of the oil. Over time, the filter will become corroded with debris, and it is changed during each oil change. The final step in the process is to refill the engine with fresh engine oil.
How often you change your oil would depend on the type of oil you put in your engine. If you use regular motor oil, you should have your oil changed every 3,000 miles. However, you can go longer. The modern oil on the market today will allow you to go 5,000 to 7,5000 miles between oil changes. If you use full-synthetic motor oil, you can go 15,000 miles before needing an oil change.
Suppose you neglect your regular oil changes; the oil will start to thin out. It will also become corroded with oil, metal, dirt, and other particles. When this happens, the oil becomes very abrasive and could even wear down the parts of your engine. When this happens, you cannot repair the engine, and it would need to be replaced.
